Since 1993 The Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation has conducted well over 135 clinical research trials. The Foundation along with its nursing staff and physicians has received recognition from the most prestigious research centers in the United States.
By choosing to donate all earned income from clinical research trials to fund community services in Lancaster County, the Foundation has served as a prototype for research sites throughout the United States.
Lancaster County was one of the first communities in the United States to have every police vehicle equipped with life-saving defibrillators. The Foundation donated 145 defibrillators to police departments throughout Lancaster County and taught over 600 officers how to use the devices. The cost of implementing this program in Lancaster was over $500,000.00.
Education and training has been part of the charitable mission of The Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation since the beginning. Our mission continues as we provide FREE CPR education and teach individuals to use defibrillators. The Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation is the only community service organization willing to provide this education without cost. Churches, schools, health and fitness clubs, golf clubs, retirement communities, parole officers, physician office staff and Lancaster County Courthouse staff, just to name a few, are among those in our community who have benefited from the Foundation.
Saving lives know no boundaries. A defibrillator was donated to a mission in Albania and the staff needed assistance in learning to use the device. Communication was established by The Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation via e-mail and clinic staff are now prepared to save a life.
The Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation has partnered with Park City Shopping Center to establish a public access defibrillation program at the mall. Park City Center receives more than 15 million customer visits each year. Park City is now equipped with six defibrillators. Employees at the mall will have FREE CPR and defibrillator education and training provided to them by The Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation.
The Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation is the only non-profit organization in Lancaster County that has committed one full time staff person to coordinate a Patient Assistance Program. Hundreds of residents each year receive FREE life-sustaining medication through this program. Although this program is funded in total by the Foundation, our program coordinator assists patients from over 40 physician offices access free medication. A recent partnership with The Water Street Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter in Lancaster, resulted in residents of the shelter also having access to free medicines.
